WHAT’S DIFFERENT?               ABOUT US

FOOD PHILOSOPHY              MISSION STATEMENT

WHAT MAKES SOMETHING DIFFERENT…DIFFERENT?

Mostly philosophy.  Add in compassion for the sick and their caregivers.  Empathy because I’ve been there.  And caring, because I do!

I believe that “real” food should not only be delicious --but good for you.  And food should not only be good for you, but safe.  For many people that means it must be gluten-free to prevent actual, measurable harm.  Creating healthy, gluten-free food with variety proves to be a real hardship for many people -- particularly the sick and the elderly, parents and caregivers.

I've decided to do something about it and I’ve enlisted others to help.

ABOUT US

We are a young company (diabetic and celiac afflicted family owners) dedicated to the not so simple task of making life easier and more enjoyable for those tasked with feeding the celiac and gluten-free individual.A certain number of our food items are also dairy-free for those youngsters and adults requiring a GFCF or GFDF diet.

There is an increasing awareness of celiac disease and the gluten connection with a variety of physical disorders.Because this will continue to increase the demand for gluten-free food, we expect there will be occasions when demand for our products will outstrip our ability to produce. We plan to grow along with that demand but please understand it will require some time!

If you enjoy our products, and we’re sure you will, we suggest you become a regular customer. As we grow, we plan to control our growth in a way which will assure our regular customers of priority in placing orders.

The process is that you will place your order by email. You may choose to send your credit card information in that email as well or request a phone call for us to receive your information.(As our e-commerce site grows, you will be able to avoid the phone call if you wish.)Your food will be cooked once your order is received just as if you were in a café.Your order will then be delivered according to a preset schedule or shipped as appropriate.Orders will only be shipped on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

FOOD PHILOSOPHY:

You wouldn’t put poor quality gas in your car.Why would you put inferior quality food in your body? You shouldn’t.

So what makes our food good?

First, our food tastes good making it a satisfying experience to eat. Many people who are on challenging diets get depressed partially because they FEEL deprived and partially because they don’t like the food they are ALLOWED to eat.

We believe you will enjoy our food. Our food is the food you have always eaten with modifications to make it conform to a gluten-free diet. You will not feel deprived. If you invite friends to a meal with some components (desserts maybe?) from our menu, you will not be offering a substandard meal. The celiac or gluten-free individual (or guest) will not have to eat differently from anyone else. This allows a greater sense of joy whether as hostess or guest. And of course, it allows meal-time to be a social event as well.

As you read our ingredients you will note that we only use good ingredients and healthy fats. We DO NOT add preservatives, hydrogenated fats, or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).We use only things we would eat ourselves. We use organic products when possible. We use high quality, lower fat meats -- naturally grown when indicated. You can request organic meat if preferred. We will try to meet that need with an upcharge of course. Please note we also have an excellent source of naturally grown, non-organic certified meat as well which can be shipped to you.

While many people have gone fat-free, they have in fact -- gone to fat. That is because the large bakery producers add more sugar and in addition to unhealthy fats trying to add flavor.Other people, who are thin, miss the point that we need fats as an essential part of a healthy diet. They provide essential fatty acids, help our immune system function, keep our skin soft, help our body absorb fat-soluble vitamins as well as provide calories for fuel for our bodies.Importantly, fats in food help you regulate your food portions because your hunger is sated with less food.

We use two particularly healthy fats -- olive oil and canola oil.According to my research – these fats don’t cause inflammation as other fats can. These healthy fats support your immune system; help break down fat in your body; and slow the rate at which sugars and carbohydrates are absorbed by your body. This is useful to know for those who are diabetic.Additionally, we offer salmon cakes for an easy way to get your two servings per week of fatty fish which helps provide a natural, good tasting source for Omega – 3 fats from wild-caught (non-farmed) salmon. We also use butter in many of our baked goods. While it is saturated, we know it adds tremendous taste value.Olive oil in your diet help counter-act these saturated fats although the best thing to do is exercise portion control.

Lastly, our food is convenient for those who do not like to cook or are not particularly gifted in the kitchen.Busy people whether mothers, caregivers or those who work long hours and don’t have time to cook food from scratch can utilize Something Different as a go-to source for excellent quality, good-tasting, and nutritious food.

**OUR NON-GUARANTEE:

While we are unable to guarantee that no gluten will ever sneak into an item, we maintain a gluten-free environment to the very best of our ability.

What does this mean? We will never knowingly bring any products or ingredients into our kitchen that are processed utilizing wheat, barley, rye or traditional oats. We will purchase as many ingredient products as possible labeled gluten-free, read labels avidly and call producers to check for gluten-free status to assure ourselves that our ingredients are gluten-free. We are in the same position you are – trying to do the best we can to avoid gluten in an imperfect system.

Because we cannot produce every ingredient we use, whether from field or factory to our kitchen, we cannot provide a guarantee to succeed in our efforts to avoid gluten. However, we can and do -- promise to try!
